Maker's Shirt in NYC

Despite its newly recent appearance street-side in Midtown on Madison Avenue, New York, New York, Kamakura Shirts (a.k.a. Maker's Shirt) has been around for a long time. And what is so special about this new, but not so new face? Try one, you'll see - they're quite special. It's my husband newest go-to shirt, and just might be yours too.

First, despite not necessarily being custom made (although you can custom make to order), when they take your measurements and choose the right shirt, it actually is the right fit. A fit the way a dress shirt should be. It looks good, but it also actually feels good. Happiness restored. Confidence restored.

Secondly, it comes to the thread count... Now what exactly is this thread count that people are always talking about? Well, thread counts are the number of threads woven together in one single square inch. The concept being that the higher the thread count, the more thread used, equating to the softer the feel. Practically speaking, you can have too high of a thread count, where you may increase the technical thread count, but you do so by diminishing the actual strand of thread itself, blah blah blah... So why this tangent? Kamakura Shirts takes pride on its 300 thread count shirts, handmade specifically for Kamakura Shirts, and it is pretty much the ultimate thread count while maintaining the highest quality.

There's Tokyo Fit or NY Fit, which more easily translates to a shorter or longer shirt. And then there's Casual Fit or Traveler Fit, which again mostly translates to iron or non-iron. A dart in the middle or two darts on the side - all I'm saying is that there are options, and just the right kind of options.

Tried, tested, and true - don't be shy, pop in (or go online) and get your Maker's Shirt today. They fit like a glove, or really they fit just exactly how a shirt is meant to fit you.

Lilly in October

Yes, Lilly Pulitzer tends to be most popular in the summer, but who says we can't flow into Fall? With the unofficial color of orange for October, this print makes me extra eager for the season:

Summer in Yurman

David Yurman has released a new Solari line with a beautiful collection for the summer. The pastel pinks and brilliant blues are so complimentary to the traditional Yurman style. I'm loving it.

Blundstone 500

As we all know, the holidays are fast approaching, and when they come, they always seem to come with haste. We're all rushing to get ready, buy the presents, cook the food, decorate the house, maybe book the flights, etc. Well, for the ladies in your life, I've got one here for you to check off the list, get her a Blundstone boot:

I recently received the Original 500 boot in brown for my birthday and I absolutely love it. It's stylish, it's warm, and it goes with just about anything - jeans, black pants, casual, dressy...

Most recently Blundstone just debuted their Chelsea boot with a heel. Perfect for that "make your work boot, your workday boot" trend that's going on right now. After all, aren't we all just a little bit country deep down?!

Harrod's in London

Harrod’s is an upscale department store in the Royal Borough of Kensington, London. First founded in 1824 by Henry Harrod at the age of 25, the business started as a curtains and linens type store. Later, Henry explored the grocery wholesale business with an expressed interest in different teas. The next generation to acquire the store, Charles Harrod, dabbled into the market of perfumes, stationery, and fresh produce. Despite a fire early on in the business, the store continued to grow and thrive, generation after generation.

And here's a bit of trivia... Harrod’s was the first store to debut the “moving staircase” in England, more commonly known today as the escalator. Today, there are many, many moving staircases in the more than one million square feet the store occupies with over 300 different departments. Sadly, they no longer offer the brandy at the top of the staircase, as they did when it first rolled out in order to ease customers' tensions from this futuristic feature. Plus, I’m sure it didn’t hurt to help push sales. Maybe they should bring back that concept?

When in London, Harrod’s department store is a must see. Around Christmas time, it is famous for its lavish decorations and crowded halls during the boxing day sales. Also, there is an extremely impressive food court, one of the more high end food courts with decadent savory dishes, if you can get your hands on something amongst the crowd.

Summer in Madras

Summer has been hot, and miserable. Summer has also been rainy, and miserable. But I'm not sure who is more miserable - me, my kids, or my hair... And come the end of the summer, just a ponytail doesn't seem to be cutting it anymore. So, I seek support, and accessorize I do.

Pink & Green Poncho

Some seem to be calling it a wrap while others seem to be calling it a poncho. While I believe it to be the latter, whatever you want to call it, these coveralls are hot right now.

They make for a perfect season to season transition piece. And for me right now, expecting a baby in less than a month, I think it is going to be the crucial piece to my wardrobe on a day to day basis. Mothers of newborns, you know what I mean... style and practicality, ingenious!
